Description

Let’s make one thing clear at the very beginning. There are plenty of terms referring to a similar matter: we have to deal with interdisciplinarity, but also with pluridisciplinarity, multidisciplinarity and finally transdisciplinarity. In some partial definitions they seem to differ profoundly, and many theorists like to distinguish them properly from each other, but we actually think that this is not more than a childish game anymore and that from the larger perspective they in fact point towards the necessary future access to any piece of information or knowledge as being part of a higher complex, or simply a fragment of a whole.

We simply think that the above terms only mirror the progressing courage and curiosity to involve more and more ways and accesses when examining some aspect of reality. It was interdisciplinarity at first: two specific methods of research started to profit mutually, as in case of e. g. bio-chemistry. Then it came to pluri- or multidisciplinarity when more then just two disciplines and their methods were jointed to bring some new, larges views and new methods and accesses to the matter or object of research.

Finally we bravely started to talk about transdisciplinarity and from here it starts to be most honest and most interesting, and also most benefiting for everyone, as we see it.

Interdisciplinary programs sometimes arise from a shared conviction that the traditional disciplines are unable or unwilling to address an important problem.
